How would you describe the company culture? What makes it special?
I would describe the company culture as autonomous, flexible, casual, inclusive, and trusting. You can feel comfortable being yourself while being encouraged to innovate and collaborate.

How was your onboarding experience? Did it meet your expectations?
My onboarding experience was very positive. There were plenty of resources, online courses and training materials, and my colleagues were helpful throughout the process. It met my expectations and helped me get off to a good start in my role.

What would you say to someone considering applying to Hexagons's Geosystems division?
I’d recommend considering Hexagon's Geosystems division if you're looking for a place that values innovation and personal development. It’s a great environment to grow professionally while working on exciting projects with a diverse team.

Why should experts in your discipline definitely want to work with us?
Experts in my discipline can continuously learn and grow their skillsets here. As an SAP IT Application Engineer focused on the SD module, I can choose the sub-areas I want to specialise in, which allows me to directly contribute to improving our global sales processes. I'm involved in analysing, conceptualising, and implementing solutions, working on both the conceptual and technical sides. In my department, we have the chance to expand our skills, which in turn helps us progress in our careers and stay relevant in the industry.

What do you personally appreciate most about your work with us?
I truly value the openness, mutual understanding, and rich exchange of experience among colleagues. The flexibility in working hours allows for a great work-life balance, while the high level of self-responsibility gives me the freedom to shape my work. Additionally, being part of a company with a strong history and excellent reputation, located in the beautiful Alpine Rhine Valley, is something I deeply appreciate.

What makes Hexagon`s Geosystems division different from other employers?
Our products and processes are uniquely complex, which constantly challenges us to think outside the box and come up with creative solutions. This need for innovation is encouraged both individually and through collaboration with experts from different disciplines and teams—even on an international level. It’s this dynamic and inspiring work environment that sets us apart.

What freedoms or opportunities for personal development do you have with us?
Growth happens naturally through hands-on experience, but the company also actively supports development in many ways. There are opportunities to switch departments, explore new areas, or even relocate within the company. I also appreciate the openness to training and courses—if you express your needs, they are heard. On top of that, Hexagon’s Geosystems division offers structured development initiatives to help employees grow both personally and professionally.

What tips do you have for applicants to integrate well into the team and the company culture?
Embrace the openness of your new colleagues—you might be surprised by how welcoming and supportive they are. Stay curious, ask questions, and share your own experiences. Your perspective is valuable, and by engaging with your team from the start, you’ll integrate quickly and feel at home.

Mechanics and Optics – Precision at the highest level

Ivana Jelic, Mechanics & Optics Engineer, with us since June 2004

What role does innovation play in your team, and how are new ideas encouraged?
Innovation is a very important aspect in our company. We are constantly working to improve our products and develop them further with the latest technologies. Everyone in the team has the opportunity to contribute suggestions, and these ideas are actively encouraged and discussed regularly with other team members. They are implemented through innovative concepts and projects.

What has been your proudest moment or achievement with us so far?
My 20th anniversary. I am proud to have been part of this company for so long, to have co-developed so many products, and to still find my work exciting and enriching after all these years.

Why should experts in your field definitely want to work with us?
Experts in my field have the chance to fully utilize their skills in an innovative and dynamic environment. With us, you have the opportunity to participate in exciting projects, learn about new technologies, and continuously develop your knowledge, as we highly value and promote the exchange of knowledge. We have such a vast and broad know-how and working with various disciplines gives you the opportunity to greatly expand your horizons.

Sebastian Pfaff, Senior Engineer Optics & Mechanics, with us since September 2023

What aspects of the work here motivate you the most?
Leica Geosystems measurement solutions are highly complex systems, and this complexity naturally extends to their development. Overcoming these challenges day by day results in a product you can slowly watch growing. I am fortunate to be involved at every stage – starting from initial sketches, moving through the development of first prototypes and leading up to the moment I hold the final product in my hands. Once our products reach the market, they can be found all over the world: Showing my contributions to family and friends while remembering and sharing development stories makes me proud and motivates me for every new challenge approaching.

Why did you decide to work with us, and how has your opinion of the company developed since then?
I was seeking a personal challenge – a chance to deepdive into technology and precision engineering. Leica Geosystems’ products fascinate me, and I was eager to learn and understand the science behind it. Knowing Leica Geosystems’ reputation as a trusted brand with a strong market position gave me the confidence and safety to take on this journey. My perspective hasn’t changed; instead, it rather evolved: Learning must never stop and with every concept I grasp, I discover ten more topics that are new to me and worth to follow up with. Leica Geosystems’ diverse product portfolio ensures that I am constantly expanding my knowledge and develop not only our products but also myself.

Can you give an example of when you felt particularly supported or encouraged?
Holding the first physical parts in hand after a long development phase is always an encouraging milestone. The excitement grows even more as functionalities begin to take shape and come to life. For me, the most memorable moment was capturing the first images with a camera module we had developed. Sharing this achievement with colleagues and the entire development team was a proud and rewarding experience.

What makes your team special?
In my optics and mechanics team, we have engineers and physicists with decades of experience—some who were working on surveying equipment before I was even born. These experts have encountered nearly every challenge imaginable in their careers and are always willing to share their knowledge as we encounter new obstacles. Alongside them are engineers and senior engineers, who serve as the backbone of every new development. Then, there’s the next generation—the “young and wild,” eager to learn and enthusiastic about adopting the latest technologies to leave their mark on future innovations. In my understanding this is the perfect combination of experience, expertise and fresh perspectives to develop next-generation products while offering the well-known Leica Geosystems quality that our customers expect when they use our devices.

On a lighter note we are also the melting pot of cultures in the RhineValley. I assume we might have the highest density of dialects in any team, mixing up all kinds of cultures and customs in and outside of work

Product and Project Management – The strategists behind the success

Metka Majeric, Product Manager, with us since June 2017

What do you personally appreciate most about your work with us?
What I really enjoy about working here is the combination of interesting work at the cutting edge of innovation and the friendly, supportive atmosphere. Joining any team and learning about different products is a breeze because everyone is willing to help. Making friends comes naturally since people are so approachable. It doesn’t feel like just a job; it feels like being part of a community where you’re truly valued and trusted.

What are the biggest benefits you experience as an employee here?
As an employee at Hexagon’s Geosystems division, I enjoy several significant benefits. For instance, the company provides a dynamic and innovative work environment that fosters professional growth and development. Additionally, Hexagon’s Geosystems division promotes a healthy work-life balance, or what we like to call work-life blending, ensuring that employees can thrive both professionally and personally.

What challenges have you overcome with us, and how did the company help you navigate them?
When I joined the company, one of the challenges I encountered was my fear of public speaking, rooted in limited practice during my student years. However, the company provided me with opportunities to present to diverse audiences. This significantly enhanced my confidence and helped me recognize my expertise. The trust and belief that key individuals within the company placed in me encouraged me to believe in myself as well. This is just one example of how the company's support has been instrumental in my professional growth.

What tips do you have for applicants to integrate well into the team and the company culture?
To integrate well into our team and company culture, don't hesitate to reach out to anyone for support or guidance - everyone here is eager to help you succeed. Embracing a love for sports can be particularly beneficial, as we have various groups engaged in all kinds of activities. Or if you're interested in learning German, we have a group that meets regularly to practice together. Engaging in these activities will help you seamlessly integrate into the company culture and feel at home in no time.
