The 3D models for paving can either be part of a comprehensive road design or created directly on-site using the Leica iCON site field software. With the aid of a TPS or Smart Antenna, these models can be effortlessly generated on-site and quickly transferred to the Leica MC1 panel for curb and gutter production. The software is user-friendly and intuitive, empowering every foreman to easily create such models.
Leica Geosystems offers the patented hardware configuration 1UP for 3D paving. This setup uses only one TPS for height information, while dual GNSS provides the heading without the need for RTK or correction services. Compared to a dual mast TPS-only setup, this configuration is more cost-effective and easier to set up and adjust throughout the workflow. In the event of GNSS disruptions (like passing under a bridge or structure), users can quickly swap position sensors to add a second TPS ensuring minimal interruptions to the paving production.

Leapfrogging is the method of transferring measurement of a machine prism from one total station to another, to ensure a continuous paving operation without a stop in laying the concrete mix. This is usually required when the machine has reached a predetermined distance from the robot, e.g. 100m (300') or when an obstacle blocks the line of sight to the prism.
