Collision investigation

Making it faster and easier than ever before to capture and clear a collision scene, keeping public roads moving and police safe.

When a collision occurs the speed with which we capture the detail of the scene and then clear the area is essential. For example, road closures cost money, delay the public and provide an unsafe environment for responders on the ground and those held up by the incident.

Blocked roads hold up traffic and put the public and responders in danger, through risk of secondary collision and near misses. Capturing the scene efficiently and easily so that roads can be re-opened quickly after an incident is essential.

Our high density laser scans of crush zones are easily captured in minutes, giving complete, accurate data that allows investigator to superimpose crush data against the scans of an undamaged vehicle. It is even possible for specific points to be digitally accessed for comparison and analysis against the two scans. In addition surface geometry is preserved and permanently archived for future verification of crush parameters, should it be needed.

Case Study

3D Laser Scanning for Collision Investigation and Reconstruction by the Humberside Police

A research project, started in 2006 by the Highways Agency, set out to test the capability of 3D laser scanning equipment in collision investigation. Researchers wanted to find out if it was possible to reduce the delays for drivers on major routes by cutting the time collision investigators spend collecting data from the scene.
