Overhaul for Leica Cyclone FIELD 360 boosts field productivity
A new look for Leica Cyclone FIELD 360 v6.0
Chiara Francolini, Senior Product Engineer, explains how the recent update to Leica Cyclone FIELD 360 enhances scanning productivity with a faster, more intuitive interface, smarter data management, and seamless connectivity.
The latest update to Leica Cyclone FIELD 360 completely modernises the app. With an updated framework and a unified design that aligns with other software, this release ensures that Cyclone FIELD 360 remains a powerful, scalable, and future-proof tool for 3D data capture and registration in the field.
The new app is more robust and comes with a faster, sleeker, and more intuitive user interface (UI) that delivers various practical benefits. Targeted improvements enhance the user experience while maintaining a familiar interface, allowing users to manage data collection in the field as efficiently as possible.
Key benefits of the new UI
The new, refined user interface for Cyclone FIELD 360 enhances productivity and ease of use. Key benefits include:
Smoother User Experience
Faster load speeds and improved scanner connectivity create a smoother, more responsive user experience in Cyclone
FIELD 360. Connecting the app to a scanner has been reduced to just three seconds, ensuring a faster, more seamless
workflow without unnecessary delays.
More intuitive and accessible
Greater Flexibility
The new UI is customisable to users' preferences, making it easy to add plug-ins and adapt the wrokflow to
specific needs.
"It keeps the soul of the old one while still enhancing usability in all the right ways," said an early tester. |
New features and improvements
The new update offers several new features and upgrades:
Scanning Mini PlayerOne of the most significant additions is the new Scanning MiniPlayer, a compact, smart version of the Scanner Control Window. This new, minimisable control panel provides quick access to scanner functions – stop/start, adjust scan settings, and check the battery level and synchronisation state. This enables users to manage scans while simultaneously working on other Cyclone FIELD 360 tasks, such as Linking scans or taking measurements. When time efficiency is critical – such as mapping large sites or working outdoors – the Scanning MiniPlayer comes into its own. |

Smart Data BrowserThe new Smart Data Browser consolidates the three previous browsers into a single interface, making it simple to manage scan data, setups, and GeoTags in one place. Users can filter, sort, and search their data effortlessly to fit the project and their preference – viewing either setups or GeoTags, visualising GeoTags within setups, and selecting multiple items for export or Reality Cloud Studio upload. The Smart Data Browser provides a foundation that can adapt to support future enhancements as user needs change. |
|
|
Connectivity BrowserThe new Connectivity Browser makes it easier than ever to connect to the scanner – from the job browser or directly within the job itself. With the added drop-down menu, users can now manage the data stored within the scanner. |
Enhanced importing and exportingBackup and Restore allows users to import and export jobs directly in the job browser, making fieldwork much faster and more efficient. |
|
|
Dedicated Plug-ins sectionThere is now a dedicated space for quickly accessing plug-ins, making it easier for users to customise their workflow with specialised tools. Currently, it includes FF/FL, for rapid floor flatness and floor levelness assessments, and Quick Plan, for quick and simple modelling in the field. This section is designed for future growth, allowing for seamless integration of additional plug-ins as the app evolves. |
Tools and MeasurementsA new Tools section in the right-hand sidebar now provides quick access to Measurements. Users can view all measurements in a dedicated browser with filters and multi-selection capabilities, making it easy to organise and apply batch operations. Previously, measurements weren’t listed in a structured way, so this new approach significantly improves usability. |
|
|
Manage AttachmentsThe new Attachments section allows users to manage all project-related files, such as PDFs, CSVs, DXFs, and IFCs, directly within the app. With a browser-style interface featuring filters and multi-selection, users can quickly find and manage relevant project files. |
Ease-of-use enhancements
Along with the new key feature upgrades, the latest update of Cyclone FIELD 360 comes with a host of ease-of-use enhancements that make scanning easier.
Unified design
The redesign brings Cyclone FIELD 360 in line with other Hexagon software, like Reality Cloud Studio, ensuring
consistency and making it easier for users to transition between tools.
Better file accessibility
Job attachments are now more accessible, with all files conveniently located in the right sidebar for quick
access.
Cloud integration
Users can now easily access their cloud account before starting a job through a new cloud login option in the
side menu.
Improved settings navigation
Settings are now organised into clear categories, such as Appearance and Preferences. This bold layout makes it
easy to find and adjust settings for a job, expanding the range of custom options while keeping navigation
simple and efficient.
Easier job management
Users can now add images and descriptions to a new job to better visualise and organise each project.
Big changes, big impact
This new update to Cyclone FIELD 360 brings a more user-friendly interface that makes it quicker and easier to manage scan data. The updated yet familiar design improves efficiency for existing users while increasing accessibility for new users.
This release isn’t just a UI upgrade – it's a completely new application, built with an updated backend structure that removes previous technical limitations. This means better performance, expanded workflow capabilities, and future scalability.
With the new and improved Cyclone FIELD 360 app, field scanning is more intuitive and productive than ever.
