Leica iCON pave for curb & gutter pavers

3D precision and efficiency for a smooth and even surface

Leica MC1 machine control solution on a curb and gutter paver machine in road construction using the 1UP solution.

Even with a flawlessly constructed road, bicycle path, or parking lot, the project remains incomplete without the meticulous construction of curbs and gutters. These concrete structures are essential for several reasons. They efficiently manage stormwater, directing it away from surfaces to prevent flooding and erosion. Curbs also enhance traffic safety, and they contribute to the aesthetic appeal of urban environments.

Why take the risk of building anything less than the perfect curb and gutter? The machines required for constructing these elements are a significant investment, but relying on outdated stringline methods is both costly and time-consuming. Instead, integrating 3D machine control technology maximises precision and efficiency, ensuring that curbs and gutters are built to the highest standards, at the first time.

3D for every road phase

Our machine control solutions support a variety of road construction applications, ensuring projects meet specifications and deadlines. From excavation and grading to milling and paving, the Leica MC1 solution provides the quickest path to efficiency. With specialised paving solutions for both concrete and asphalt, you can maximise the utilisation of your machinery and the effective use of materials, optimising every aspect of your paving production.

3D model creation

The 3D models for paving can either be part of a comprehensive road design or created directly on-site using the Leica iCON site field software. With the aid of a TPS or Smart Antenna, these models can be effortlessly generated on-site and quickly transferred to the Leica MC1 panel for curb and gutter production. The software is user-friendly and intuitive, empowering every foreman to easily create such models.

Unique 1UP solution

Leica Geosystems offers the patented hardware configuration 1UP for 3D paving. This setup uses only one TPS for height information, while dual GNSS provides the heading without the need for RTK or correction services. Compared to a dual mast TPS-only setup, this configuration is more cost-effective and easier to set up and adjust throughout the workflow. In the event of GNSS disruptions (like passing under a bridge or structure), users can quickly swap position sensors to add a second TPS ensuring minimal interruptions to the paving production.

Supported machines

We believe in the power of collaboration and co-development to optimise the interoperability of systems and enhance the end-user experience. Our technical collaboration agreements with leading Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in the construction industry result in greater reliability of integrated systems and improved serviceability and support for brands such as Dynapac, Gomaco, Vögele, Wirtgen, Boomag, Power Curber and many others.

Leica Smart Spare feature

The Leica Smart Spare feature is available for concrete and asphalt paving. It is used for intelligent management of the spare total station to enable continuous paving. It allows quick reassignment of the spare total stations, and speeds to process of locking or re-locking to correct prism.

Leica Auto Leapfrogging feature

Leapfrogging is the method of transferring measurement of a machine prism from one total station to another, to ensure a continuous paving operation without a stop in laying the concrete mix. This is usually required when the machine has reached a predetermined distance from the robot, e.g. 100m (300') or when an obstacle blocks the line of sight to the prism.
